Great Ideas
Since embarking on my healthy new lifestyle more than three years ago, I
realized that restaurant dining can be a
real danger zone. Many restaurant meals contain 1,500-2,000 calories, the amount many people should be
consuming in an entire day! I found a resource that makes restaurant dining 'safe' again. 'Healthy Dining in San
Diego' lists 75 area restaurants that offer healthy menu choices, everything from fast food to fine dining. I have
dined at a number of these restaurants and have been very pleased with the taste and nutrition content of their
offerings. If you enjoy eating out but still want to make sure that you're eating healthy, you can't be without this
great book. Books are available at Whole Foods, Jimbo's, Henry's, Jamba Juice, or

to order online.
SpecialtyProduce is a
large warehouse that supplies produce to the finer restaurants in San Diego, and
has recently opened it's doors to the public. They carry the very finest fruits
and vegetables, from the every-day to the exotic. I took my kids in to help me pick
out some produce, and they were enchanted. I never saw them so enthusiastic about
eating healthy! We left with purple potatoes, yellow tomatoes and huckleberries,
along with our old standbys: bananas, broccoli, lettuce, etc. This would be a GREAT
place to bring kids on a field trip or scout outing. E-mail Bob@SpecialtyProduce
if you'd like to set that up.
Specialty Produce boasts an in-depth website with more information about produce
than you can imagine. If you want to do research on an item, they make it very easy.
They've also teamed up with the restaurants in San Diego to make it easy for you
to find your favorite produce items while dining out. Just log on to their website
and type in the name of the produce you're interested in. They will tell you which
restaurants purchased it in the past few days! Do yourself a favor and check out
SpecialtyProduce.com. You'll never
look at fruits and veggies the same way again!
